Chief of Staff Job at Luck & Leverage, United States

  • Luck & Leverage
  • United States

Job Description

We are partnering with an established international executive search firm that is continuing to build its US private markets business.

The firm has an approximately 30-year track record, around 80 employees globally, and has completed more than 1,000 searches over the last two years for leading private equity and private markets investors.

A senior Managing Partner is building the US platform, and this Chief of Staff hire will work directly alongside them as a genuine No.2 across the growth and operation of the business.

This is a strong fit for someone who wants direct exposure to a high-performing executive search Partner, senior private equity clients, and the mechanics of building a search business — without necessarily coming in as a traditional search consultant.

THE ROLE

You will work directly with the Managing Partner across both sales and delivery, helping create the operating leverage required to scale the US business.

The role is deliberately broad and could include:

• Research and market intelligence ahead of searches and client meetings

• Preparing pitches, proposals and business development materials

• Search and delivery preparation

• Project management across active assignments and internal priorities

• Improving systems, processes and operational efficiency

• Managing information, priorities and follow-ups across the Managing Partner’s workload

• Supporting events, conferences and other marketing initiatives

• Coordinating internal and external stakeholders

• Identifying ways to improve how the US business operates as it grows

You will sit close to major commercial decisions, client conversations and search execution rather than operating as a traditional administrative Chief of Staff.

WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING FOR

There is no single required background.

You could come from executive search, consulting, professional services, investing, operations or another high-performance environment.

The important things are that you are:

• Highly organised and able to manage multiple moving priorities

• Commercially minded and interested in how businesses grow

• Strong at research, analysis and synthesising information

• Comfortable communicating with senior stakeholders

• Proactive and able to anticipate what needs to happen next

• Comfortable working with limited structure

• Interested in improving processes rather than simply following them

• Willing to operate across both detailed execution and higher-level projects

Exposure to private equity, private markets or executive search would be valuable, but is not essential if you can quickly understand complex markets and clients.

ENTREPRENEURIAL ENVIRONMENT

This is an early-stage US build-out within an established global firm.

You will have the resources, client relationships and credibility of a mature executive search business, but the day-to-day environment will feel much more entrepreneurial.

The Managing Partner is looking for someone who wants significant responsibility and is comfortable operating beyond a narrow job description.

CAREER PATH

The role has intentionally been designed with flexibility.

Over time, you could move towards:

• Search origination and client development

• Executive search delivery

• Building and leading the operational function around the US business

The direction will depend on your strengths and where you want to take the role.

LOCATION

US-based, with a strong preference for New York / Tri-State given the proximity to the Managing Partner and the firm’s private markets client base.

COMPENSATION

Compensation will depend on background, experience and the structure of the role.

There is flexibility to create a package with different balances of fixed and performance-linked compensation depending on experience and appetite for upside.

INTERESTED?

If you are commercially minded, highly organised and interested in working directly alongside a senior executive search Partner as they build a US private markets business, get in touch for a confidential conversation.
